Enrico Fermi was an Italian physicist known for his work on the development of quantum theory and nuclear and particle physics. As a young boy, Enrico enjoyed learning physics and mathematics. A friend of his father, Adolfo Amidei, gave him books on physics and mathematics, which increased Enrico's interest in these subjects.
Enrico won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1938 for his study of radioactivity. He is thought of as one of the great scientist of the 20th century.
